As licensed hair stylists at Jenny’s Salon in Mechanicsburg, PA, we’ve helped countless clients transform their looks with hair extensions. Whether you’re dreaming of longer locks, added volume, or a pop of color, extensions can be a game-changer.
Let’s dive into the world of hair extensions and answer some common questions.
How Do Hair Extensions Work?
Hair extensions are additional hair pieces that are attached to your natural hair to add length, volume, or both. There are several methods of application, but at Jenny’s Salon, we specialize in two popular types: Invisible Beaded Extensions (IBE) and Halo Extensions.
Invisible Beaded Extensions (IBE)
IBE is a semi-permanent method where small wefts of hair are attached to your natural hair using tiny beads. The beads are carefully hidden, creating a seamless, natural look.
Halo Extensions
Halo extensions are a temporary option that sits on your head like a headband. A thin, invisible wire supports the extension, which is then covered by your own hair for a natural blend.
How Much Are Hair Extensions?
One of the most common questions we get is about the cost of hair extensions. The price can vary widely depending on several factors:
- Type of extensions (IBE, Halo, etc.)
- Quality of the hair (synthetic vs. human hair)
- Amount of hair needed
- Complexity of application
How Much Do Hair Extensions Cost at Jenny’s Salon?
At Jenny’s Salon, our hair extension services typically range from $200 to $500+ (pricing does not include the hair). Here’s a general breakdown:
- Invisible Beaded Extensions:
-
- 1 Row: $200
- 2 Rows: $325
- 3 Rows: $450
- Removal Only: $50
Remember, these are general estimates. We always provide a personalized quote after a consultation, taking into account your specific hair needs and goals.
How Long Do Hair Extensions Last?
The lifespan of your extensions depends on the type you choose and how well you maintain them.
Invisible Beaded Extensions (IBE)
With proper care, IBE can last 3-4 months before needing to be moved up (re-positioned as your natural hair grows). The hair itself can be reused for up to a year.
Halo Extensions
Halo extensions can last years with good care. Since they’re removable, they often have a longer lifespan than semi-permanent extensions.
Caring for Your Hair Extensions
To get the most out of your extensions, proper care is essential:
Washing Your Hair Extensions
- Before washing, thoroughly brush your hair to remove any tangles
- Gently wash with sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo
- Never rub the ends of the hair together while washing
- Once the shampoo is completely rinsed, add a hydrating conditioner to the ends of your extensions and leave in for 5 minutes.
- Avoid getting conditioner on the bond of the hair extensions.
- A weekly moisturizing conditioning hair mask is recommended.
Dying & Styling Your Hair Extensions
-
- Gently squeeze out the excess water and blot with a cotton towel.
- While extensions are damp, use a large wide tooth comb or wet brush to detangle.
- Laced Hair can be styled using a boar’s hair bristle brush, flat iron, or curling iron.
- Apply a hydrating serum, oil or leave-in conditioner to keep extensions from tangling or drying out and brush regularly
- While brushing, hold the base of the scalp (where the extensions adhere to the natural hair).
- Use ONLY salon-grade sulfate-free and paraben-free products.
- Loosely braid extensions before bed.
- Styling and drying our Waved extensions require a little extra moisture and care: re-wet after straightening and adding moisturizing leave-in treatment. Consider anti-frizz heat protectant and use a diffuser to dry hair on medium to low heat
Vacation Care
-
- Wet, comb, then loosely braid your hair before entering the ocean, lake, or pool.
- Use a clarifying shampoo and conditioner immediately after spending time in the ocean, lake, or pool.
- Minerals found within bodies of water can react poorly with extensions and can lead to discoloration of extensions.
- Laced Hair is not responsible for any discoloration or change in hair integrity due to contact with the water.
- Sunscreen has been found to change the color and quality of Laced Hair. We recommend using a mineral sunscreen without the ingredient AVOBENZONE
Dying or Toning Laced Hair
-
- We do not suggest that clients dye or tone their hair extensions as it can change or alter the integrity of the hair.
- Laced Hair is not liable and does not replace any hair that is colored or toned, including purple shampoo.
Are Hair Extensions Right for You?
Hair extensions can be a fantastic option for many people, but they’re not for everyone. Here are some factors to consider:
- Your natural hair health: Your hair needs to be strong enough to support extensions
- Lifestyle: Some extension types require more maintenance than others
- Budget: Consider both initial costs and ongoing maintenance
- Hair goals: Are you looking for length, volume, or both?
At Jenny’s Salon, we offer comprehensive consultations to help you decide if extensions are right for you, and if so, which type would best suit your needs.
