Balayage hair color is a hair technique where stylists apply hair coloring with a sweeping technique painting on your hair. Balayage doesn’t follow the rules of normal highlights and applying color in straight lines. Balayage is low maintenance and can be applied to any color hair, however, the best effects will be seen by blondes, brown hair, and redheads.

The major difference between balayage and ombré is that balayage is a technique, and ombré is a gradient of color. Ombré is when a stylist uses the balayage technique to create a color contrast that begins darkest at the roots, blends into a rich medium shade towards the middle, and finishes with the lightest parts at the ends of the hair. You need balayage to achieve ombré hair, but balayage on its own can give many different effects by using different shades strategically throughout the hair for a multi-dimensional finish.

Foilyage is a hair technique similar to Balayage, Hairstylists apply hair coloring by a sweeping technique, painting on your hair. Then like traditional hair highlights, sections of hair are wrapped in foil. Once all hair sections are wrapped, heat is applied, causing the overall hair color to penetrate deeper into the hair to lighten hair further, amplifying the lifting effect of the highlights.
